Our office and the ginning unit is located in South India near Auroville, in the dry part of the country, where mysterious Calotropis grows in abundance.

Wild collection and hand ginning of the Calotropis is time-consuming and labor-intensive. In turn, the production of WEGANOOL fabric helps the rural economy in deserted parts of the country where jobs are unsecured.

The fruit of our extensive research and strong teamwork is this unique fabric that by the look and feel stands out among other natural fabrics.

Further, the history behind the Calotropis plant and fabric making itself are extremely fascinating! Read more...

OUR MISSION: TO PROVIDE HOLISTIC SUSTAINABLE FABRIC-MAKING SOLUTIONS WHERE EVERYONE INVOLVED BENEFITS FROM COLLABORATION

MEET THE FOUNDER

Shankar was born and raised in Devanga weavers community where the art of fabric making has been mastered for centuries.

In search of bigger challenges, Shankar left his family business and started his career as an Assistant Merchandiser at a high fashion embroidery company in Chennai, and soon he was handling several exclusive clients.

The real adventure began in 2015 when he established FABORG as a freelance company and got his first inquiry about hemp fabric. It opened the door to his dream of a more sustainable world.

One day, while looking out the window at the Calotropis plant, a most common weed growing around his home, his inquisitive mind raised a question: "How come there are SO many sunbirds around this plant?" Five minutes later he was outside checking out the fibers, and exactly five months later the first WEGANOOL fabric was in his hands.

As Steve Jobs said, we can only connect the dots looking backward.
