After World War II, the world was left with massive stockpiles of chemicals originally designed for warfare—nerve agents, explosives, and toxic compounds. Instead of disposing of them, industries repurposed these chemicals into synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, marking the birth of industrial agriculture. What was once used to destroy life on the battlefield was now marketed as a way to "feed the world." This shift created an illusion of abundance while slowly poisoning the soil, water, and food we eat. The Green Revolution wasn’t about progress - it was about profit for corporations only.

 

Decades of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides have damaged the land, depleting its natural fertility, erasing vital microbes, and driving away earthworms and beneficial predators. As a result, farmers have become completely dependent on artificial inputs. Worse yet, pests have adapted, growing stronger and attacking with even greater force when chemicals are removed. The cruel irony? Yields have dropped —far below what our grandparents once harvested with nothing but natural methods. Meanwhile, farmers are buried under mounting debt, trapped in a system that promised abundance but instead delivered carefully drafted lies and losses. Escaping this cycle isn’t just a choice—it’s a fight for survival.

 

Gowri Shankar, the founder of FABORG, knows farmers' struggles firsthand. He is the grandson of a farmer who was forced to sell his land just to pay off pesticide companies—a loss that left a lasting mark. At the time, he was too young to change the course of events, but today, he is on a mission to help farmers reclaim their financial independence with the best and affordable natural solutions and restore the fertility of the Motherland.
